What led you to CrossFit 2A?

We had just moved to Concord from downtown Boston. We had watched CrossFit from afar-at our gym, on TV, and watched several friends fall in love with it. My treadmill routine in a nice smelling gym wasn't giving me any results. I needed the intensity and community CrossFit seemed to offer. We checked out the 2 closest CrossFit boxes but knew 2A was going to be a great fit as soon as we met Nicole.

What is the biggest change you’ve seen in yourself since you started CrossFit?

I feel stronger overall. My posture is better. Mentally and physically I feel more prepared to deal with day to day tasks.

How have you benefited from continuing your programming while being pregnant?

Doing CrossFit while pregnant has taught me to listen to my body. This is my second child and I have been much more in tune with myself. I stayed more "wrapped" in this time around and I took up less space. I have learned that growing a baby is not a temporary handicap, but rather is one more awesome thing my body can do. I have listened to my body and been able to continue to complete workouts while scaling load and intensity. I anticipate an easier delivery with the core strength I've added and maintained over the last 9 months.

What do you think about the stigma surrounding women who weightlift while pregnant and what would you tell someone who opposed the idea?

I have to believe that the people who criticize me (and other pregnant CrossFitters or lifters) for staying healthy and fit throughout a pregnancy, are not educated about CrossFit truths, pregnancy truths, and the fact those two can safely co-habitate. I would tell them it's important to discuss goals for both pregnancy and fitness with your health care provider. Make sure you find a health care provider who will listen to your goals and be actively engaged in dialogues about your fitness regime. Ultimately, trust your body, your judgement, your health care professional and coaches. My doctor has been on board with my exercise plan from day one. As a matter of fact, she's an avid CrossFitter and believes it's a fantastic workout to maintain fitness during pregnancy.

What are your goals going forward and what do you think will help you achieve them?

My most basic goal after baby is to get my strict pull-up! More generically, I want to get in better shape than I was pre-baby. I know I can be a fit, healthy, active mom. And I know CF2A is the path for me to achieve that.

How has CrossFit 2A helped you in your day to day life?

Despite my growing physique, my self-esteem is better. I am proud of being a CrossFitter and the strength I have gained. It has helped me be more comfortable in my skin and respect my body. I have become proud of what I can do, not ashamed of what I can't.

What would you recommend to someone who is just starting out with CrossFit or is too afraid to try it?

Sign up! Intimidation can keep you from becoming your best self. Push past your fears and hesitations; you'll surprise yourself with what you can accomplish.

Any other comments about your experience and transformation?

I have really enjoyed my first 10 months of CrossFit. I look forward to not modifying moves and gaining ground as an unpregnant member of 2A.
